Training

Establishing standards for training and qualifications for working in the renewable energy industry is essential if the industry is to grow to meet demand.  In this section we would like to highlight training courses and feedback from those in the industry on the ability of training to deliver the requirements needed for industry development.

Please contact us at info@renewableseast.org.uk if you can provide information in this area.

Beyond 2010 training grant scheme

The training grants scheme, ‘Beyond 2010', funded by the East of England Development Agency and the European Social Fund, is due to begin delivery this year following a tendering process which was won by the previous programme managers Essex County Council.

The programme has been developed to assist businesses in the East of England to fund training which will fill critical skills gaps within the business and support business development. Grants can be accessed by businesses of all sizes (some exceptions apply) with expected support to normally be around 50% of the total training costs (excluding VAT).

Skills for Energy on behalf of EEEGR have been selected as the partners to represent the Energy industry, encompassing all businesses who directly operate in any area of the energy supply chain; from extraction/manufacturing to installation.

In the previous ‘Beyond 2010' programme, which ran from September 2008 - December 2010, EEEGR assisted some 200 companies access £280,000 worth of training grants which contributed to the filling of a wide variety of skills gaps from IT and management to fibre optic and wind turbine installation.

Businesses must be based within one of the East of England's six counties; Essex, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Hertfordshire, and must be trading, not a start-up. Training cannot be a legal requirement and must have a direct benefit to the business. The programme is only running until December 2011, within which all training must be applied for, completed and claimed back. These tight deadlines mean that we need to hear from you ASAP if you are interested in applying. Grants will be distributed on a first come, first served basis and once they're gone, they're gone.
