Simon Chiva - Resource Efficiency East Project Manager
Simon completed a Bachelor of Science in Human Geography from the University of Reading in 2000. Prior to this he worked for several years in the financial sector. His first environmental post was with a small charity promoting sustainability working in business and environmental management. After, this he worked for a Local Authority as a Local Agenda 21 Officer incorporating the role of Recycling Officer, the focus of which was raising Council, public and industry awareness of environmental management and sustainability issues.
Simon joined UK CEED, an organisation which focussed on environmental enterprise support in 2003, initially to manage a project for the Department of Trade & Industry examining the management and subsequent re-use/recycling of construction and demolition waste. Whilst working on the project he was a lead speaker on the Environment Agency/Constructing Excellence SITEwise Campaign, a series of practical workshops aimed at improving site waste management in the construction industry and demonstrating the DTI Voluntary Code of Site Waste Management.
From this Simon went on to manage the Centre's Encluster project, the first geographical cluster of environmental goods and services sector companies in the UK, in this post he assisted in the development of innovative solutions to the environmental problems and establish an Ecotrade Centre, in conjunction with Singh UK Ltd, to segregate and recycle significant tonnages of construction and demolition waste.
Prior to joining Renewables East Simon established the Remade East of England Initiative, the East of England's Recyclate Market Development Programme which continues to successfully divert waste from landfill for recycling in the East of England.
