Key Milestones

2003 Renewables East formed
The original company was established with three years core funding from the East of England Development Agency ("EEDA") totalling £0.5M (£133kpa). In order truly kick-start the organisation with sector-specific expertise, Nick Goodall was appointed as Launch Director. Nick Goodall's previous role was Chief Executive of the British Wind Association ("BWEA"), the national trade association for Wind Energy - a particularly strong asset for the East of England, onshore and offshore.

2003 Nick Fleming recruited to offer operational support to Nick Goodall's strategic focus. Nick Fleming's previous roles including onshore wind development at Texas Utilities (formerly Eastern Electricity) as well as being a founder director of Your Energy, a regional onshore Wind Farm developer.

2003 Move to UEA
University of East Anglia offers office accommodation in the ZICER Building as part of the School of Environmental Sciences

May 2004 James Beal becomes MD
In May 2004, after a highly success launch, James Beal replaced Nick Goodall as the Managing Director of Renewables East in order to take the business forward with an operational and delivery focus.

2005 Renewables East receives confirmation that its capital grant application for the OREC (Offshore Renewable Energy Centre) enterprise hub at Lowestoft and its Revenue Grant application for Championing Offshore Renewable Energy have both been successful.

2005? Richard Powell, founder company Chairman at EEDA hands over the Chairmanship of the company to Steve Clarke, founder director of RE and Sales Director for REpower UK Ltd. a joint venture company within regional power-sector engineering firm, Peter Brotherhood Ltd.

200? BioRegen Launched

200? British Bioalcohol group formed

200? Richard Parker joined the company from FibroWatt
Richard joined Renewables East as Development Director to lead the bio energy team.

2006 Steve Clarke steps down as company Chairman to take up the role of Development Director, Offshore Renewable Energy, re-branding OREC to OrbisEnergy (Offshore Renewables Business) and setting in motion a suite of activities aimed at job creation, knowledge creation and growth for the East of England's offshore Renewable Energy agenda.

2006 Michelle Burdette (nee Michelle Hooker) joins RE to support the operational aspects of the Championing programme and to provide a strong links with the public sector stakeholders in the OrbisEnergy project.

2006 John Reynolds joins RE as company Chairman

2007 Renewables East Contracted by the East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) to champion the offshore renewable energy agenda in the East Midlands. Due to the success of the offshore championing programme in the East of England, RE awarded the contract to deliver similar job creation, skills enhancement, knowledge creation and growth for EMDA

June 2007 RE Wins REA Regional Renewable Energy Agency of the Year Award
At a gala dinner at the Savoy Hotel, RE was awarded the Regional Renewable Energy Agency Award 2007 by the REA (Renewable Energy Association)
